Troop 195 Cadettes Earn Silver Award

Troop 195 Cadettes from St. Edward-Epiphany Catholic School Earn the Silver Award

Troop_195_DCongratulations to the Cadettes of Troop 195 for earning the prestigious Silver Award — the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn! Adreanna DeMarino, Christa Jones, Catharine Kelley, Katy Rose Price and Lindsay Schowalter, 7th and 8th graders from St. Edward-Epiphany Catholic School, each volunteered from 50-90 hours of community service in less than six months. The Cadette’s Silver Award Project, “Teach the Young and Entertain the Elderly”, had two parts. The girls operated a Daycare Learning Center twice a month, from December 2013 – April 2014, providing activities and teaching lifetime skills to young children. This money earning activity made it possible for the Cadettes to improve and supply the Activity Center at the Saint Francis Home for the elderly and disabled with a volume of entertainment necessities, including a blue ray DVD player, a surround sound system, boom box, cassette player, popcorn machine, luggage rack, utility cart, fan, and pictures for the walls. Additionally, the Cadettes held a book drive at their school and acquired enough music cds, movie dvds, Wii games, and books to fill a large donated bookcase. Troop_195_GThe girls cherished their time with the residents at the Saint Francis Home while serving refreshments, conversing or just listening to their heartfelt stories. Not only did the dedicated Cadettes make a change for the better of their community, they learned how to operate and market a small business, acquired sustainable skills, and cultivated lifelong friendships. As rising 8th graders at St. Edward-Epiphany Catholic School, Adreanna, Christa and Katy Rose will continue their volunteer service at the Saint Francis Home. Catharine and Lindsay, rising 9th graders at St. Gertrude High School, will spend the summer planning their individual Girl Scout Gold Award projects.
