Uptown Alley to Host Free Women’s Health Festival on Oct. 4 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Uptown Alley to Match All Donations Made in Oct. to the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation

Uptown Alley announced today it will host a free women’s health festival known as the “Fall BRAzaar” with the Bon Air Junior Women’s Club and Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Taking place on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the event aims to combat that Chesterfield and Powhatan counties have the highest incidence rates of breast cancer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

“Our mission is to put life-saving information into the hands and minds of as many women in our community as we can” said Bekki Morris, member of the Bon Air Junior Women’s club and organizer of the Fall BRAzaar.  “We wish to remove the barriers that accompany fear and lack of education as reasons women are dying from breast cancer.”

Now in its fourth year, the Fall BRAzaar brings together healthcare providers, cancer care agencies, support groups, holistic and nutrition experts to provide free information in a fun atmosphere. Vendors will exhibit arts and crafts, home goods, beauty and body care items. Entertainment will be provided by No Last Names, Matt Via, Red Reign, Rich Moore, The Kind Eye Acoustic, Rockslide and others. The 2014 Miss-ter BRAzaar will be crowned in a womanless beauty pageant emceed by Autumn-Skye Boothe, reigning Mrs. Virginia and breast cancer survivor.

“It is an honor to provide a venue for this important community event,” said Paul Spada, general manager of Uptown Alley. “We welcome area residents to join Uptown Alley in the fight against breast cancer.”

On Oct. 4 patrons are invited to donate $1 to the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation and Uptown Alley will add $2 in game play to existing game play cards. Uptown Alley will match all donations made at the entertainment venue during the month of October to the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation. Uptown Alley will also be offering food, drink and bowling specials on Saturday, Oct. 4.

The Fall BRAzaar was established to remember Denys Lynn Musselman of Chesterfield who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2011.  For more information about the event, please visit www.fallbrazaar.com or “like” the event page on Facebook.
