Veritas Expansion Continues

Veritas Expansion Continues Tradition of Educational Excellence for Two Union Presbyterian Seminary Buildings

Union Presbyterian Seminary (Union) and Veritas School (Veritas) approved a long-term agreement for Veritas School to lease two buildings on Union’s campus at 3406 Brook Road and 1201 Palmyra Avenue. J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College last leased this space when their downtown campus was under renovation.

Veritas will expand its present location at 3400 Brook Road to include Lingle Hall and the Newbury Center, opening for classes in the additional buildings on August 26, 2014, significantly increasing the capacity of the school’s permanent campus home in historic Northside Richmond.

Reflecting on the lease agreement, Brian Blount, Union Presbyterian’s President, commented, “For one-hundred years, Union has provided the Richmond community a place of significant Christian scholarship at the corner of Brook and Westwood. The federation of the two schools UTS and PSCE resulted in excess space. We are delighted that Veritas School will continue the tradition of Christian education in buildings created for that purpose. We believe a strong and growing Veritas School will be an important part of our community in Ginter Park.”

Keith Nix, Head of School at Veritas, was elated noting, “Interest in the classical, Christian education offered at Veritas School is growing every year. We are delighted to fill Lingle Hall and the Newbury Center with young students, eager to engage hearts and minds in their studies, and to emerge as well-equipped citizens and members of our community. We are grateful to Union for their support of our school, not only through this lease agreement but through field trips and athletic space, and look forward to a rich, on-going relationship ‘across the Brook’.”
The fourteen-year old K4 – 12th grade Veritas School moved to Brook Road from their former home on Jahnke Road in the fall of 2013. Union Presbyterian Seminary will celebrate the centennial of Assembly’s Training School and Presbyterian School of Christian Education (ATS/PSCE) this November.
