Chesterfield County Public Library and Public Schools Score with the Washington Redskins Reading Program
The Chesterfield County Public Library (CCPL) invites children to get a head start on summer reading by attending a special open house, Thursday, May 15, 6-8 p.m., at all library branches expect Bon Air Library, which is closed for renovation. In addition to receiving the school’s summer reading lists at the open house, elementary school students will be able to sign up for the Redskins Read Across Richmond program, where they can win Redskins prizes.
The Redskins Read Across Richmond program is modeled on the game of football. Students who read ten minutes will gain a yard of football play. If they read 100 minutes, they score a touchdown. The more students read, the more points they earn to win Redskins prizes for themselves, their class and their school. Students also win a chance to read with a current Washington Redskins player or alumni player.
Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) elementary students who attend the open house will get a head start on earning points just by attending the event and signing up at the library for the online summer reading program. All students who participate in the CCPL Summer Reading Program will have a chance to win weekly books prizes and an iPad Mini.
At the open house, students and parents also will have the opportunity to record themselves singing the official Army song, “The Army Goes Rolling Along.” In honor of the U. S. Army’s 239th birthday, Fort Lee is collecting videos of people singing the Army’s official song for a music video that will be shared in June with audiences worldwide.
