The Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k presented by Kroger is back and better on Saturday, April 23, and the YMCA 10k Training Team is a great way to prepare for the return of the 10k to its traditional in-person format,
The YMCA 10k Training Team kicks off on February 12, and registration is open at www.sportsbackers.org until February 21. The 10-week program emphasizes the group approach to training as it prepares participants to successfully cover 6.2 miles on April 23. Whether participants are looking to jumpstart their fitness journey or are ready to add more intense workouts into their training schedule, the motivational coaches and supportive teammates on the YMCA 10k Training Team will have runners, joggers, and walkers ready for race day.
The YMCA 10k Training Team will take place at 19 host sites around the Richmond region, including YMCA branches and select community locations. In addition to entry in the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k and weekend group runs, participants will receive the following benefits:
- 10 free trips to the YMCA
- a YMCA 10k Training Team shirt
- a detailed program with daily running activities, cross-training exercises, and advice on gear and nutrition
The team is lead by head coach Jennifer Perrin, who started participating in the 10k in 2004 and has been a training team coach since 2015. She’s also coached Sports Backers training teams for 8k and half marathon races and brings plenty of experience and enthusiasm to guide participants. Jennifer is a dedicated and knowledgeable coach and fitness instructor for people of all ages and experience levels.
“I know from my experiences as a participant and coach that the YMCA 10k Training is a great way to prepare for race day, and I am really excited for this year’s training program,” Perrin said. “We’ve got a fantastic group of coaches ready to help participants meet their goals and the welcoming team atmosphere at each location will carry the excitement and enthusiasm all the way through race day on April 23.”
Both the YMCA 10k Training Team and Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k will offer income-based registration rates for anyone who qualifies and would otherwise not be able to participate. More details can be found at sportsbackers.org/events/monument-ave-10k/10k-pricing-registration/.
