Chesterfield County Parks and Rec Archaeology and History Summer Camps

Diggin’ in History Summer Archaeology Camp is designed for children ages 8-14 who will learn how to search for clues from the past. Hands-on activities include site surveys, conducting shovel test pits, screen soil samples, conduct excavations participate in artifact repair and reconstruction. A field trip is included with the price on the last day of camp. The dates for these camps are July 17-21 and August 7-11 and August 21-25. Time is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $100/camper. Prepaid registration and payment are required in advance. Snacks and drinks provided for campers.

Heritage Crafts and Games Summer Camp features many of the common period games that children enjoyed during the 17th and 18th centuries. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in colonial activities from calligraphy, candle dipping, butter churning, soap making, pottery and making various crafts each day ranging from medicine bags, dolls, cattail boats, making clay pots and others. No video games, no television, no batteries required!  Five separate half day sessions offered at Magnolia Grange, Chesterfield County Museum, and Historic Trinity Church, all located within the historic Courthouse Complex. Monday-Friday, July 24-28 and August 14-18, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Cost: $100 Ages 8- 14. Space is limited. Snacks and drinks provided for campers.
